Monday, 18 January, 2021, Martin Luther King Jr Day. Den Haag.

Although we cannot imagine a world without her, we had to say goodbye to my mom this afternoon. It was actually very sudden, all things considered. She died with my dad and I holding her, just as we had hoped.

The last three weeks have been marvelous with her. She was able to talk to her brother and sister-in-law last week via video chat [something we did regularly], had a visit from one of her favorite dogs, Chanel, which brought her SO much joy, and we had good food and conversations. She was more vocal these past few weeks than in the past few months, so we are very grateful for that. When they said 3-6 months, she didn't listen, so we had a beautiful 9 months to enjoy as a family.

As we move through this week of planning the next steps we will let you all know what is to come. I will say again, Thank You does not begin to cover our thanks, and hers, for everyone who has brightened her life. Even in her most quiet moments, she was always aware of and grateful for the friends of a lifetime.

For myself, I need to say thank you for sharing your stories and pictures. It has given me more of my mother than you can imagine.
