Quinn
Heavy hearts here as we tell you that Quinn passed away early this morning in his sleep.
15 May, 2022, Den Haag.
We had a better evening yesterday and he and I had a nice good-night chat as we do, and then he had a good night's sleep before slipping peacefully away around 7:30 this morning. My dad and I had been alternating nights there, so my dad was sleeping across the room, checked on him at 4:30, kissed him, and said I love you before going back to sleep. A few hours later the nurses checked and he was gone.
We have to say a humongous thank you to all of you, near and far, for your visits, cards, calls, messages, treats, and hugs. It meant so much to him that all of you kept in touch, and to us as well.
The Jacobshospice, where he has been the past three weeks was incredible, and not only did they honor him this morning with a minute of silence and a procession to the mortuary vehicle, they so enjoyed and loved him and his infectious laugh and friendship. Several of them said that although they do this work with love and honor, Quinn was a special one. On that, I think we all agree.
We have notified family and close friends, and for those we have not reached out to directly our apologies. As you can imagine, there are many of you we would love to contact directly but the energy to do it all in one day is a bit much for us today.
My dad and I send our thanks and gratitude. I could not have asked for a more amazing brother, and the bond he and I had is a once-in-a-lifetime gift. Thank you for seeing in him the fun and joy that we did.
We will plan a celebration of life for when my husband and I return in the fall. With holiday weekends and travel plans of some of those near and dear to Quinn, we felt it best to wait. We will keep you posted.
As always, our huge love, thanks, and gratitude!
